An Overview of the Regulations relating to Student Assessment and Progress
Verification and Appeals Procedure/Appeals against Assessment decisions
A student may ask for verification of an assessment decision by an Examination Board and/or appeal against the decision of an Examination Board.
Impartial information about the verification and appeals procedures can be obtained from the Head of Student Services and the Academic Quality and Registry Officer.
Extenuating Circumstances
The College will expect its students to inform course tutors or the Head of Programme/Study of any difficulty which may impede their performance at examination so that such factors can be taken into account.
An extenuating circumstance proforma, to be completed prior to an examination/assessment, is available from the Academic Services Department.
Unfair Practice/Academic Offences
The awards of the University of South Wales are given in recognition of each candidate’s personal achievement. The College regards any form of unfair practice, such as plagiarism or collusion in work submitted for assessment as a very serious offence.
Further advice about these regulations is available from your Head of Study/Course Tutor
Procedure for Monitoring Academic Progress
The College expects its students to take responsibility for making full use of the learning resources available to them and to respect the study needs of fellow students. The College will also expect its students to undertake as much study as is needed outside the ‘teaching room’ environment to ensure a successful outcome to their course of studies.
The College will expect its students to notify course tutors or the Head of Study/Programme of any discrepancy which they may feel has occurred in the recording of their academic progress
The College will expect its students to inform course tutors or Head of Study/Programme of any problems which may be adversely affecting their studies or academic progress, so that the College can provide any assistance that is available.
Teaching staff are responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students, and for engaging in a responsive tutor support system to complement the overall monitoring of a student’s progress. Unsatisfactory academic progress includes failure to comply with the requirements of the College and/or Music and/or Drama departments, and to fulfil the specifications of the syllabus for the programme of study.
What to do if you have a complaint
If you have any cause for dissatisfaction with your course or any aspect of your life at the College, please do not shy away from airing your views. The Course Boards offer such a platform for discussion between staff and students and the College also operates a Complaints Procedure to deal with any aspect of College services with which you feel dissatisfied.
